We're Here!

Aloha! It's Andy doing an update.

After learning of our assignment to Hickam AFB (Honolulu, Hawaii) 7 months ago, we are finally here! The flight was a short 5 hours and 45 minutes. Andy slept through some light to moderate turbulence, and Sarah watched 3 movies on the seatback Video on Demand screens.

We arrived in Honolulu, and were met by Sarah's cousin Alicia, 3 pilots from the squadron, and some super-nice spouses. We received Leis and a warm welcome! It feels unreal to finally be here.

First Afternoon:

Through the help of Sarah's cousin and two friends from Andy's squadron, we successfully rescued 8 checked bags, 4 carry-ons, and 2 cats. We got checked in to our hotel on Ford Island, right in the middle of Pearl Harbor.

(If you have seen the recent movie Pearl Harbor, the red and white "Control Tower" where the guys mount the machine guns--I can see it from our window right now)

We had some dinner and relaxed with the cats, and slept hard!

Day 2

Andy went and rescued the 350Z from the port. Now we have wheels! Then Andy's sponsor (another Lieutenant from the C-17 squadron) showed Andy around the squadron and gave a tour. For lunch we went to Ruby Tuesdays and ate outside (feels weird for December! It's 80+ degrees....no complaints here. We went to the housing office, made an appointment for Monday to view a potential house on Hickam AFB, and bought groceries.

For Dinner, we met up with a friend Andy had met at Survival School in Washington state. His wife grew up in Honolulu, and together they showed us a great place to eat in Chinatown. Later we wandered to the Aloha Tower shopping complex and had some drinks overlooking the harbor. It was cool blasting through Chinatown and Honolulu at night in a 350Z! Great times with great friends.

Whats next? Checking out the beach, getting checked in to the base and the squadron, and getting into a house on base. And Andy says, more pictures!

Best Wishes from Hawaii,

Andy & Sarah
