Honolulu or Bust!

Welcome to our new Blog, the Putnam Post!

We thought something simple and concise would be good to start archiving our journeys with the USAF as we move to our second base, Hickam Air Force Base. We hope to help keep you each in the loop with our lives as we say goodbye to family and best friends who we've been so close to for the last two years in Oklahoma (while we were at Vance AFB). We were happy to enjoy Thanksgiving with both our immediate families in Edmond this year. Then, saying goodbye was tough. After a six month wait to get going to Hawaii, we were to say the least, very excited.

To start, here are a few photos from our adventure in the new Murano from Edmond, OK, to Los Angeles, CA.

We miss you Linda, Alex and Jim! Thanks for letting us live at your house for the last few months. We appreciate all the space for suitcases and boxes as well as all the yummy home-cooked meals!

Gretel (gray) and Hans (b&w) having a great time riding in the Murano!

His favorite spot!
We stopped in Amarillo, Texas, the first day for lunch! It was snowing too!Snow from Texas through to New Mexico! The lodge we stayed at the first night in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Beautiful Arizona!

We are at LAX awaiting our flight! Hans and Gretel, our super traveling kitties, are somewhere together awaiting to board the airplane as well. It was a little traumatic sending them off with the airport staff, but they were troopers! They are nervous of course, but I, Sarah, just met the captain of our flight as I was peeking out the terminal windows at the plane. He asked if everything looked okay, and I got the opportunity to tell him our two kitties were flying today. He was very nice, and we disussed the process once they arrive in Hawaii. I feel much better meeting the professional nice experienced-looking pilot. :-) This morning's wake-up at 4am was a little stressful as Gretel escaped the rental van and tried to break free. It was alarming because she was super close to running across the busy Sepulveda Blvd. Luckily Andy's super survival cat catching skills worked to our benefit. We feel much better now at the airport. Another step down.

Our time traveling to LA and staying here has been nice, but all four of us are looking forward to being in one place for an extended amount of time. We shipped the Murano off and got to see our best buddies, Melissa and Daniel Lapidus, last night for Mexican in Santa Barbara!

It was a great time and nice to catch up on their lives in their new home of San Luis Obispo. We can't wait to see them again.

We will arrive in Honolulu via Delta at 12:40pm Hawaii time, 4 hours earlier than CST. A few Lt's from the base and my dear cousin, Alicia (Steger) Hofmann, will all be welcoming us to the island upon arrival. We will update again once we pass the hurdle of the Hawaii dept. of agriculture with the kitties!

Aloha!!

  1. So it's true that it snowed in Texas! I love the pictures of the cats on you while you're driving. Cute.
