Sunday Mini-post

Waiting for Andy to get a haircut. We apologize we haven't blogged in a week or so. We've been busy balancing our checklist around the house with getting outdoors and seeing friends.

Today entails errands and going to the airport twice. We are on our way to pick up and welcome a fellow pilot who arrives today, one month after our arrival to the day, to move to Hickam. Andy's friend, Eric, is also coming to fly C-17s. We are not going to be the newbies anymore. I can't wait to see his reaction to the 80 degree sunshine as he comes from cold Ohio.

Then later tonight, we will pick up our two neighbor families who are coming back from a week on the Big Island. Yay for new friends!

Our New Years was great and a bit laid back this year. We celebrated with our new buds at their home on our loop by having a tasty steak dinner, playing board games and toasting champagne to the thunderous Hawaiian fireworks that were booming for hours all over the island. (Thanks Jessica and Kevin!) The New Years here is five times as huge for the islanders than the Fourth of July. It was so neat to learn of all the Asian and Hawaiian traditions.

Yesterday Andy and I went on a great hike to Mokapu'u point with Grant and Alicia (buddies and cousin-in-law/cousin). It was beautiful to see the south expanse of the island and try to catch a glimpse of whales!! We saw several plumes (blow hole sprays) but no tails or fins. We were hoping for leaps, no luck this time. Props to Alicia for doing a great job on the hike - 8 mos. pregnant almost! I was impressed. They are expecting a little boy in February. We can't wait to share in the new joy to come!!

Thanks for reading. More to come soon.
